Problem Reading CD FAQs

Q. My "A Open" 48x CD-ROM drive cannot read the CD that contains my Canon Software Publishing or Canon Creative Program (and possible other CDs).

A. The media (material) used for Canon CD-ROM disks is of highest quality. However, the quantity and complexity of data being read from the CD-ROM disk, especially during program installation, is such that often the stream of data as it is read from very high speed drives overwhelms the system. To compensate for this, Microsoft Windows has provided an option to slow down the read process.

Cancel any installation attempt which may currently be stalled. Before proceeding ensure that you have no other programs running.

With your right mouse button, click on the My Computer icon on your desktop, then select Properties from the menu which appears. When the System Properties window opens, select the Performance tab to the top right. On the lower left side of this screen, select File System, then select the CD-ROM tab. In the center of this screen is a small window which reads Quad-speed or higher. Click the small arrowhead to the right of this window and select Double-speed drives. Click OK on this window and on the System Properties window. You will now see a message advising you that you need to restart for these new settings to take effect. Answer Yes. Your CD-ROM drive should now be able to read the CD-ROM disk for installation. (Remember to reset back to Quad Speed or higher after installation is complete if you user your CD-ROM drive for DVD or other applications which are optimized at higher speed).
