Font Manager FAQs

Q. What is the difference between deleting a font from a category and deleting it permanently from my hard drive.

A. When you delete a font from a category the font name is removed from the category but the font file will stay in the Windows font folder. When you delete a font via the permanent function this will remove the font completely from your computer. The font will not be available for use until it is reinstalled from the appropriate CD.

Q. Some of the operations of removing and installing fonts do not work.

A. The Windows font folder is prone to refresh problems. Fonts may be installed, but can not be removed without multiple restarts. Microsoft provides a repair tool for the font folder as part of the TWEAKUI utility on the Windows CD. If this doesn't work, then you must delete the fonts manually through the Windows Font Folder (restarting the machine as necessary).

Q. Some of the font previews don't get displayed.

A. You can not view the full preview of a font that is not installed, unless you have the CD that contains the font in the CD ROM drive.

Q. Some of the previews when viewed or printed are cut off.

A. This is due to a bug in one of the Microsoft controls that we use. There is unfortunately nothing we can do about it in this release.

Q. I have blank entries in my font list.

A. If the Font Manager gets "confused" as to what fonts are actually available or unavailable, (usually after an unsuccessful uninstall or install) blank font entries can appear under categories.
The solution to is to remove the font registry key, and then remove all FPV files from the Font Manager program folder. To remove the registry key, go to Start, select Run, type in Regedit and click on OK. Once in the registry, go to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE \GST\Fonts. Highlight Fonts and delete the key. Next, open Explorer and go to Program Files, greenstreet, Font Manager. Highlight and delete all files with a .FPV extension. Last, simply reinstall the product.

Q. After installing all the fonts from the CD my computer has slowed down.

A. It is not advisable to install all the fonts onto your machine as this could affect the operation of your computer. A warning is given if you try to install a number of fonts that will increase the number of fonts on your computer to more than 500. Installing more than 500 fonts onto your computer can cause a reduction in speed. We recommend that you limit yourself to a number less than 500.

Q. I am using Windows '98 second edition and after installing fonts I am unable to view the previews from within my font folder.

A. This is caused by the same problem that can cause your computer to run slower (see the previous question above). To rectify this problem, remove enough fonts until you are at a reasonable number in the fonts folder. (We recommend no more than 500).

Q. I am unable to select certain fonts.

A. If the folder and the fonts that you are viewing shows a box that is grey in color, then this indicates that the font is available to preview but not to install. We supply previews for all the fonts in our collections but you need to buy the actual collection to be able to install and use them.
