PowerText 3D FAQs

Q. PowerText crashes when I try to use it.

A. The most likely cause of this is a DirectX 5 issue. You should reinstall DirectX 5 from the PowerText 3D CD. Go to Start, select Run, and type in: d:\SYSTEM\REDIST\directx\ dxsetup.exe (assuming d: is your CD drive). Since this application has been released, DirectX 6 has been delivered and is now available for download from the Microsoft Website. But this application should run fine using DirectX 5.

Q. I'm always receiving a "Server Busy" message when embedding PowerText characters in OLE packages.

A. If your computer is low on resources, PowerText will take awhile to return to the parent application. This message will appear if it takes too long. Clicking on "Retry" will allow it to continue. To reduce the likelihood of this message appearing, close as many other applications as you can when using PowerText 3D. Reducing the colors and/or screen resolution may help as well.

Q. How do I use my PowerText picture in a document?

A. By importing your PowerText picture as a bitmap graphic. From the file menu select EXPORT... select the file type you require and the size of the graphic in pixels. NOTE: The larger the size the longer it will take to export and the larger the file will be, so you may need to experiment with the size option.

Q. Can I have more than one style of text in a PowerText picture?

A. Yes. You can add multiple layers to your picture, each with a different style of text if wanted, and then move each of them around the picture to the required position.

Q. PowerText runs very slowly on my computer.

A. PowerText is a very power hungry application. We suggest that you don't use more than 3 lines of text and don't use more than a few words on each line.

Q. I sometimes get strange lines jutting out from my 3-D text

A. We have made our every effort to test PowerText with as many fonts as possible, but obviously have not been able to test all of them. Occasionally the outline path of the characters gets calculated incorrectly (especially with fancy fonts) and this is the result. Changing the degree of an effect or changing the font size will sometimes rectify this.

Q. Can I wrap my own texture or picture around 3D Text?

A. No, it isn't possible to do this in this version but we are considering it for the future
