Canon Web Publisher FAQs

Q. How can I change my home page theme?

A. If you are the owner of the web page, you should see a button on the left labeled: "Admin". Click on this button and you'll be able to easily change your home page theme, title and description.

Q. How can I download an image or document?

A. If an image or document can be downloaded, there will be a link on the viewing page with the label "Download Instructions". Clicking on this link will take you step by step through the process of downloading the image or document to your computer.

If there is not a "Download Instructions" label on the viewing page, it is not possible to download the image or document at this time.

Note: If a document cannot be viewed through the browser you are using, you will see text instructing you what to do in order to download the document for viewing from your hard drive.

Q. How can I get my own free web site?

A. You should see a link to the left labeled: "Get your own...". Clicking on this link will display a list of great programs that you can use to create and then upload your images to the Internet.

Q. Can I upload files from my hard disk?

A. Yes and No.

Yes; if you can open a file from your hard disk using the appropriate Canon Software program then you will be able to post this file to your personal web page.

No; you cannot just pick any file from your hard disk and upload it (executables or zipped files for instance normally cannot be uploaded in this manner).

Q. How can I tell other people about my site?

A. When using Canon Web Publisher to upload your image or document to your web site you are given the opportunity to notify others of your site's location via email.

You can also manually send someone your URL address. First go to your web site. Highlight the URL address in your "location" or "address" area at the top of your browser. Copy the URL address (CTRL+C) and then paste the URL address (CTRL+V) into an email and distribute it to anyone you wish to inform about the site.

Q. What happened to my home page?

A. If you are visiting your web site and don't see the list of files you've uploaded then it is possible you are looking at a single viewing page and not your home page. If you are the owner of the site, then you should be able to find the Home Page URL in the email you were sent when your upload was completed successfully.

Q. Why can't I view anything?

A. If you're on the home page looking at a list of documents and images, you can view any of the listings by double clicking on a particular listing using your mouse. There are 3 types of images that can be uploaded depending upon the Canon Software product you use. These are:
  1. Images: These are .jpg and .gif images and can be viewed by any browser.
  2. Movies: These are .mov or .avi files which may require you to have a "viewer" installed - such as Apple's QuickTime viewer.
  3. Documents: These are .doc, .xls or .ppt files which if not viewable will allow you to download them onto your hard drive for later viewing.
You can identify the document or image type by looking at by their extension.
